01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

On the first floor of the Kamakura Gishi Building in Uchikanda, not far from Otemachi, Maasha Kanda (馬亞車神田店; 馬亞車, pronounced Maashā) has a quietly welcoming presence. Open from 7 am on weekdays, it has a nostalgic Shōwa-era café atmosphere. From the morning commute through the busy lunch hour, it serves as a familiar place to pause for people working nearby and others passing through the neighbourhood.

Hearty yoshoku and pasta, with coffee

There is more to Maasha than coffee: the café also has a substantial menu of meals. Rice dishes include simmered hamburger steak and Italian-style hamburger steak, both served with rice, as well as homemade chicken curry. The spaghetti selection ranges from melting mozzarella with bacon and tomato to homemade meat sauce, vongole rosso and carbonara. Many meals come with hot or iced coffee or tea, so you can linger over a freshly brewed cup after eating.

From morning toast to café sweets

For breakfast, there is a buttered-toast set with a boiled egg and a drink, as well as hot dogs. The morning options are put together efficiently, making for an easy start to the day. For an afternoon pause, the drinks include the signature Maasha Blend, Wiener coffee and Vietnamese coffee, alongside cream soda. Waffles served with ice cream offer something sweet. On weekdays, the café stays open through to 5 pm, making it a useful Kanda-area option for a late lunch or a short break before a meeting.
